The Pye Foundation Fund

Overview

The fund supports charitable organisations in the CB and PE postcodes and Lowestoft.

Among other charitable projects, it is interested in supporting STEM education and projects that preserve Pye’s name and its place in local history of science and technology.

Who can apply?: Non-profit organisations
Maximum grant: £6,000
Eligible area: CB and PE postcodes and Lowestoft
Deadlines: 1 February, 1 August

Fund criteria

Grants are available for locally focused, charitable organisations and schools operating in the CB and PE postcodes and Lowestoft.

The fund is interested in supporting STEM education, either through state funded educational establishments or charitable organisations which support students aged 5-19.

The Pye Foundation Fund will also look to support projects that preserve the Pye name and its place in the history of science and technology in East Anglia.

Grants from The Pye Foundation Fund will not support:

Ecclesiastical buildings and faith enhancing projects
Animal welfare projects
International projects
State funded public sector organisations (other than schools)
Independent schools

The fund offers unrestricted and multi-year (up to 3 years) funding.

About the funder

The Pye Foundation Fund has its roots in the Pye Trust Fund, established in 1936 by the directors of Pye Radio Ltd to support the company’s employees.

Founded by William George Pye in 1896, the Pye company grew from a small family business manufacturing scientific equipment to a major employer of thousands across East Anglia, particularly known for its innovative radio receivers.

Philips Electronics acquired the Pye businesses in the late 1960s, and the Trust became the Pye Foundation in 1976.

Over the decades, the Pye Foundation expanded beyond supporting former employees to backing a wide variety of charities and other good causes across Cambridgeshire.

In 2025, the Pye Foundation’s trustees transferred their assets to Cambridgeshire Community Foundation, creating The Pye Foundation Fund. This ensures the continuation of Pye’s philanthropic legacy with enhanced efficiency and impact for local communities.
