Internships at Cambridgeshire Community Foundation
Internship Scheme
This is a wonderful opportunity to develop your skills and gain work experience at a local, growing charity, which is part of a national network that operates extensively throughout the UK. For just over 6 years, Cambridgeshire Community Foundation has been supporting and funding important local voluntary and community sector work throughout the county of Cambridgeshire. It is estimated that most people in the UK will live or work within 20 miles of a charitable project that a community foundation has supported.
Our internship scheme is aimed at undergraduates, graduates and people looking to change career paths
What's involved?
You will get a chance to help make Cambridgeshire and Peterborough a better place to live in, and the Foundation seeks to achieve this by developing philanthropy, helping local companies with their Corporate Social Responsibility and awarding grants. We support local voluntary and community sector projects to get established, to grow and develop. Our grant making is aimed at ensuring the excluded are included, and issues of disadvantage are addressed. We support cultural projects and aim to nurture local talent and enable musical, artistic and creative community events to take place. We encourage sporting activities and projects that promote healthy lifestyles and community cohesion. All of this activity is working towards improving the quality of life for local people.
The internships generally last for 12 weeks and are voluntary placements, but we will reimburse your travel and lunch expenses.
How do I apply?
You will need to complete an application form and provide details of two referees. We do not accept CVs. Shortlisted candidates will be invited to attend an interview.
What will my internship involve?
Ideally, we would like someone who can commit to 3-4 days a week for 12 weeks, but we realise that this might not be possible and would try and find a flexible opportunity for the right candidate. In this case, we would require you to commit to specific days each week.
- You will be assigned a mentor with whom you will have regular meetings to discuss your progress and personal development needs. You will have a formal review at the two months stage
- Lunch up to £3 per day and cheapest public transport expenses, or if appropriate petrol at 25p per mile
- You will become a full and integral part of the team and will be able to draw on all team members for advice and guidance
- This is an established team with a wide range of experience in business and fund development, grant making, and donor care giving you a great insight into business development in the charity sector
- You will receive an induction
- You will have the satisfaction of knowing that you are making a vital difference to the work of the Foundation
- You will be based at The Quorum, just on the outskirts of Cambridge City
What skills may I need?
Depending on the specific internship you undertake, you will need some of the following skills:
- Strong work ethic
- Strong research and analytical skills
- Good communication and writing skills
- Highly organised with attention to detail
- Computer literate – ideally experience in using Word, Excel and PowerPoint
- Confident meeting new people
- Confident and polite phone manner
- Ability to work independently and as parts of a team
- Ability to think and work creatively
What happens if I’m successful and am invited to start?
You will be sent a letter detailing your role, details of agreed working hours, the name of your line manager and the agreed start date. You will be invited to sign a Volunteer/Intern Agreement and return this to us. When you begin at the Foundation, you will be welcomed by one of our small team who will discuss your induction. You will be given a place in the office with a work station and your work e mail account will be set up. You will be introduced to all the staff who will explain their roles at the Foundation.
We aim to provide a real working environment for you; so you will be required to participate in office matters as appropriate, this includes agreeing lunch breaks with colleagues, attending and contributing to planning meetings and Team Meetings.
