The Elizabeth Coteman Fund for Cancer Support and Research

The Elizabeth Coteman Fund has been set up by the Coteman Family in memory of Elizabeth Coteman, who died from pancreatic cancer on 22 April 2010, aged 59. It was Elizabeth's wish to establish such a fund and the family, including Elizabeth’s dear sister Judith, have turned their sad loss into an opportunity to fight the worst impacts of Pancreatic cancer, a disease that still takes so many lives and devastates so many families.
- 40 years ago few children survived childhood leukaemia - now the survival rate is 80%
- 40 years ago only 46% of women diagnosed with breast cancer survived five years or more - now that figure is also 80%
- 40 years ago 3% of people diagnosed with pancreatic cancer survived five years or more - that figure is still 3%!
- The average survival time after diagnosis is 6 months
- Diagnosis must be improved - there is currently no early detection test and treatment is limited
Elizabeth was a wonderful human being whose warmth touched all who knew her. In memory of an outstanding wife and mother, The Elizabeth Coteman Fund will offer small grants to groups working to support cancer sufferers and families and to develop research into Pancreatic Cancer.

"On Sunday 16th October, I am entering the Spires and Steeples Challenge – a 26 mile walk from Lincoln to Sleaford and I am doing it in aid of the Elizabeth Coteman Fund
The walk follows the Spires and Steeples arts and heritage route from Lincoln Castle to the Hub in Sleaford covering 26 miles. It is a multi terrain walk taking in beautiful artworks and church architecture along the way as well as a variety of Lincolnshire villages and countryside.
Once again I have my same back up team – Chris Chester at The Kirton Midlecott Sports Centre who advises me on my training and nutrition, Yvette Mayo my chiropodist who does a great job looking after my feet, the dogs who make me do my walks and Linda, my wife and manager who helps raise my sponsors and works so hard on the day to meet my needs and whims.
The Elizabeth Coteman Fund is a small charity that has a close affinity to Linda and myself.
We met Elizabeth through pointers in 2002. She used our Sh. Ch. Bonnygate Gunns A Blazing J.W. (Blaze) to have a litter of puppies, two of which she kept.
It was sad news when we learnt that she passed away at the early age of 59 from PANCREATIC cancer.
One of her wishes before she died was to set up a fund to help those that like her are misfortunate enough to suffer from this disease. The aim of the fund is to offer small grants direct to sufferers and families and to small groups working to support cancer sufferers and families; to also support the development of research into Pancreatic Cancer."

Donations of other gifts such as shares or land and buildings are also welcome additions into the fund - and may have tax reliefs associated with them for the donor (see tax benefits)
As an alternative to a life time gift, you may wish to remember the fund in your will. The value of your estate on death for inheritance tax purposes excludes any legacies you leave to charity.
Finally, offers of help with fund raising, perhaps undertaking a sponsored event on behalf of the fund or arranging a charitable event, are also very welcome.
Thank you.
